The Political Animals is a rugby league football club comprising Lords and current and former MPs and Councillors as well as past and present Parliamentary and political staff and those who have sought or are seeking public election, including devolved administrations and local authorities.  Long-standing Associate Members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group are also eligible, through invitation.

The aim of the club is to promote the sport of rugby league to a political audience bywelcoming politicians of all parties to play the game and see the good work the sport does throughout the UK.  We also use the club as a means to raise money for rugby league related charities.  You can read more about this year's charities on this site.

Although a young club – founded in summer 2009 – we have some strong supporters and sponsors, and with Mike (Stevo) Stephenson as our President, we have an excellent pedigree.

Our first match took place in the summer of 2008 at Headingly Stadium, when a Politicians XIII challenged a Journalists side to a game.  A year later, we played our first game as the Political Animals against a London XIII on the eve of the Challenge Cup Final.
